Steamed Momos Recipe

Momos basically comes from Tebit and Nepal. Momos has become famous street food of north India serve with tangy sauces and soup it is filled with vegetables ,Here is Recipe of Veg Momos.

Preparation time: 30 min.
Cook time: 1 hour
Total time: 1 hour 30 min.

Ingredients Required:

For Outer Covering:


1. One cup maida
2. Half tsp oil
3. Salt as required
4. Two- three cup water for knead

For The Stuffing:


1. Half cup chopped carrot
2. Half cup chopped cabbage
3. Half cup chopped French beans
4. Four tblsp chopped capsicum
5. Two small size spring onions finely chopped
6. Three-four small garlic finely chopped
7. Half tblsp light soya sauce and half tblsp soya sauce add as required
8. Half tsp black pepper
9. One tblsp oil
10. Salt as required

Instructions:

Preparing outer cover for momos:


1. Take maida, oil and salt in a bowl and mix it well.
2. Add water in interval and knead dough, cover the dough for next 30 min.

For Momos Stuffing:


1. Finely chopped all the vegetables.
2. Heat oil add garlic and sauté it for 2-3 seconds.
3. Add onion and sauté it for 10-15 seconds and then all finely chopped vegetables.
4. Stir on medium flame when edges start getting golden add soya sauce, salt and pepper.
5. Continue to stir fry on high flame till vegetables are cooked it takes about 8-9 min to cook.
6. Add 1-2 tblsp spring onions and greens and stir fry for minute.
7. Check taste add more salt pepper if it is required.

Shaping The Momos:


1. divide the dough in two parts. make a 6-7 inch log from each part. cut the log into equal slices.
make ball of each slice and keep them covered with a moist napkin.
2. Take each dough ball and on a lightly dusted board, roll each dough ball into a thin circle of about 2-3 inch diameter.
3. Try to get the edges to be thin and the center to be thick.
4. Place 1 or 2 tsp of vegetable stuffing in the center.
5. Lift one side of the edge and start pleating.
6. Start folding and forming the pleats one by one. towards the end, join the pleats in the center.
7. Prepare all momos this way and keep them covered under a moist napkin. till you are ready to steam them.
8. Heat water in a steamer or in a electric cooker or in a pressure cooker. let the water come to a boil.
9. In a greased steamer pan or in idli moulds, place the momos keeping space between them so that they don't touch each other. 
(to steam the momos in a pressure cooker - heat about 2 cups water in the pressure cooker. place the momos in a pan inside the cooker. remove the vent weight/whistle and steam the momos for 5 to 6 mins
10. Steam momos for 5-6 minutes.
11. Don't overdo the steaming, as the dough becomes dense and dry.
12. The steaming time may vary upon the thickness of momos cover.
13. When you touch the momo then dough should not feel sticky to you. this means they are done and the momos will have a transparent look.
14. Time of cooking momos varies from intensity of the flame and kind of pan and the steamer you are using.
15. Once done, garnish veg momos with spring onion greens.
16. Serve vegetable momos with a spicy sauce like schezwan sauce or tomato-chili sauce or chili sauce.
